Report: Apple Not Quite Ready to Go All-In on OLED iPhones

Expecting Apple to become all-in on OLED for its fall iPhone lineup? Don't bank on it—a new report from The Wall Street Journal indicates that Cupertino isn't planning to phase out LCD screens whatever fourth dimension presently.

The Journal reports that Apple plans to release iii new iPhones this autumn—two with pricey OLED screens like those found on the iPhone Ten, and a more affordable LCD model. IHS Analyst Jusy Hong reportedly says all three will look like the iPhone Ten.

"Apple expects LCD models to brand upwards the majority of iPhone sales in its lineup to be released this autumn," the study notes. The company "initially wanted roughly equal production of the two screen types. Now, … Apple plans to make more of the LCD model, anticipating that consumers would lean toward the cheaper model."

Word has it Apple tree plans to offer at least one affordable LCD model in 2022, too. The company likely won't ditch LCD screens and go all-OLED until 2022.

PCMag'southward Atomic number 82 Mobile Analyst Sascha Segan said the iPhone 10'southward OLED screen "is very carefully color counterbalanced to look every bit much like Apple's previous LCDs every bit possible." Nevertheless, "blacks are blacker, and colors are just a touch on more saturated than on the iPhone viii Plus."

The iPhone X earned an "excellent" rating in PCMag's review, though its toll gave u.s.a. pause. "No thing how exciting information technology is, I don't believe any telephone is worth the $999 to $1,149 Apple tree is selling information technology for," Segan wrote.
